The cycle of photosynthesis and respiration maintains the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide. Photosynthesis is the process during which carbon dioxide is used by the plants and oxygen is released as the product.
This oxygen is used by the animals for their respiration and carbon dioxide is released during it which is again used for photosynthesis by plants. In this way, oxygen-carbon dioxide is balanced by plants.
