Hunger has two dimensions and the difference between the two dimensions of hunger are:
a. Chronic hunger When people have diets lacking particular nutrients or inadequate food because of low income leading to their inability to buy basic foods for survival, it leads to chronic hunger. The proportion of people suffering from chronic hunger declined from 2.3% to 0.7% in rural areas and 0.8% to 0.3% in urban areas from 1983 to 1999. b. Seasonal hunger The seasonal nature of some jobs like that of agricultural farming in rural areas and casual labour in urban areas leave daily wage earners with no money during long periods of unemployment leading to seasonal hunger. The proportion of people suffering from seasonal hunger declined from 16.2% to 2.6% in rural areas and 5.6% to 0.6% in urban areas from 1983 to 1999.
