Ashoka was followed for 50 years by a succession of weaker kings. after his death kingdom was divided into two parts. One was succeeded by Dasharatha Maurya, another by Samprathi, who were Ashoka's grandson. None of Ashoka's sons could ascend the throne after him as they were sent to spread buddhism in differents parts of the country. Mahendra, his first bornand sangamitra were on to spread Buddhism in the world.
