Chittaranjan Das, popularly called Deshbandhu, was an Indian freedom fighter, political activist and lawyer during the Indian independence movement and founder-leader of the Swaraj Party. His main aim was swaraj, or self-rule, for India. Chitta Ranjan Das was born in Calcutta on Nov. 5, 1870, into a progressive Brahmo family.
