1. The third estate representatives viewed themselves as spokesmen for the whole French nation. 2. On June 20 the representatives of the third estate assembled in the hall of an indoor tennis court at Versailles. 3. They declared themselves a National Assembly and swore that they would not disperse from the ground unless the French constitution limits the power of the monarchy. 4.The National Assembly was led by Mirabeau and Abbe Sieyes. Mirabeau belonged from a noble family but he was against the system of privileges. Therefore he brought out a journal and delivered powerful speeches to the crowds assembled at Versailles. Abbe Sieyes was a priest and wrote an influential pamphlet called "What is the Third Estate?"
