Hi
Why does color of copper sulphate solution change when iron nail is put in it?
(i) When an iron nail is put in a copper sulphate solution, the colour of the solution from blue of copper sulphate to the green colour of iron sulphate. A brown coloured deposit will be found on the surface of the iron nail due to the coating of copper metal on the nail. (ii)The changes are chemical in nature as new substances, iron sulphate (green), and copper (brown) are formed.
(iii)The equation for the chemical change can be represented as -:
Copper sulphate + Iron -->Iron sulphate + Copper
Cu(SO)4 +Fe ------> Fe(SO)4
