Why mothballs and neem leaves are kept near the woolen and silk clothes?

Woollen and silk clothes need to be kept in the sun for a few hours,then washed and dry cleaned before they are stored and while storing we should put mothballs and dry neem leaves since they keep away insects that may feed on such clothes and destroy them.
